Head softball coach Leigh Ross announced the signing of outfielder and first baseman Meghan Boston (Newton, Kan.) to a National Letter of Intent for the 2010 softball season.
Boston had a standout four-year career at Newton High School, setting the career records in home runs, triples, doubles, runs scored, RBI, extra base hits, slugging percentage, walks and defensive putouts. The left-handed hitter was also the first Newton High School student-athlete to record more than 100 career RBI.
During her senior season, Boston hit seven home runs, eight triples, nine doubles, scoring 36 runs with 44 RBI. She was walked 20 times earning a .713 on base percentage while logging 18 stolen bases and striking out only once all season.
“Meghan is a great addition to the 2009 class that we're bringing in to the Syracuse softball program,” said Ross. “She has great pop in her bat and could be an immediate impact offensively to give us more power in the lineup.”
Boston racked up local and regional honors following her senior season, garnering second-team NFCA Louisville Slugger All-South Central Region and Wichita Eagle All-Metro First Team honors. She was also a three-time Kansas Coaches Association 5A All-State, Rivals.com First Team All-State and Hutchinson News First Team All-Area honoree. Boston also earned 2009 Conference Player of the Year honors and was a four-time all-conference selection.
The fifth member of the Syracuse softball incoming class, Boston furthered her softball experience playing nine years of club softball with the Wichita Mustangs, the Wichita Storm and the Wichita Crush. She started as an outfielder on four state championship club teams while also participating in four ASA nationals, most recently the 2009 ASA Gold National Championships in Oklahoma City.
