BALTIMORE – Syracuse's 2010 men's lacrosse freshman class has been ranked the fourth-best in the nation by Inside Lacrosse. The top 10 men's and women's classes for the upcoming season are featured in Inside Lacrosse's annual September recruiting issue.
Six Orange rookies are part of the magazine's “Power 100,” and defenseman Joe Fazio and attackman JoJo Marasco are ranked in the top 10. Fazio is listed second among defensemen and 10th overall. Playing for national power West Genesee, Fazio earned Under Armour All-America honors and helped the Wildcats to the 2008 state championship. He was also an all-state receiver on the Wildcats' football team that won the 2007 state title.
Marasco, the No. 2 attackman and fifth-ranked player in this year's class, set the Somers High School career scoring record with 306 points. Like Fazio, he was a 2009 Under Armour All-American. Marasco was also named a U.S. Lacrosse All-American following his junior and senior seasons.
In addition to Fazio and Marasco, defenseman Kyle Carey is ranked 42nd overall, defenseman Brian Megill is ranked 74th overall, goalie Matthew Lerman is listed 81st overall and defenseman Griffin Vehar is ranked 92nd overall.
Johns Hopkins' class is No. 1 in the magazine's rankings followed by Virginia, Harvard, Syracuse and Notre Dame. Georgetown checks in at No. 6. North Carolina, Duke, Maryland and Cornell round out the top 10.
