SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men's lacrosse team is well represented in the nominations for Inside Lacrosse's second annual Laxie Awards presented by Lax World. The Orange received a total of seven nominations in lacrosse's version of the ESPYs, including a nod for “Team of the Year."
Orange fans can vote for their favorite moments of last season by visiting www.InsideLacrosse.com/laxies. The winners will be revealed in the December issue of Inside Lacrosse.
The Orange won its second straight national championship and posted a 16-2 overall record last season, including a thrilling come-from-behind victory against Cornell to win its 11th national championship. For its success, the Orange is up for “Team of the Year” and the Syracuse-Cornell NCAA title game is a “Game of the Year” nominee.
Individually, former SU standout Kenny Nims is nominated for “Division I Player of the Year” and “Goal of the Year” for his game-tying tally at the end of regulation against Cornell in the national championship game.
Senior Cody Jamieson is nominated for “Breakthrough Performance of the Year” and “Clutch Performer of the Year.” Jamieson scored the game-winning in overtime against Cornell and was picked to the NCAA All-Tournament Team after recording eight goals and 11 points in SU's four postseason victories.
Head coach John Desko is a nominee for “Coach of the Year.” Desko led the Orange to a school-record 16 victories for the second year in a row and Syracuse became the first Division I team since Princeton in the mid-1990s to repeat as NCAA champions.
Syracuse was one of the big winners of the magazine's inaugural Laxie Awards in 2008, taking home five honors, including “Team of the Year” and “Division I Player of the Year” (Mike Leveille).
