SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse (22-6, 4-6) returned to its winning ways with a 3-2 victory against West Virginia (14-12, 4-6) on Sunday afternoon at the Women's Building. Senior right side Mindy Stanislovaitis led the Orange with 13 kills while junior libero Ashley Williams led the defense with 19 digs.
Stanislovaitis was one of six student-athletes who contributed to the SU offense. Junior outside hitter Noemie Lefebvre tallied her seventh double-double of the season with 12 kills and 14 digs while senior outside Hayley Todd and sophomore middle Samantha Hinz each had nine. Rookie middle Lindsay McCabe paired seven kills with a team-leading seven total blocks while sophomore setter Laura Homann notched a double-double with 46 assists and 10 digs.
Defensively, Williams' 19 digs paced the back row while sophomore Zoe Guzman added 14 and senior Sarah Hayes chipped in nine.
West Virginia took the first set, 25-18, before the Orange battled back with a pair of victories, 25-17 and 25-21. The Mountaineers evened the match with a narrow 25-21 fourth-set win, but Syracuse regained its momentum, edging the visitors, 15-10, in the deciding set to take the match, 3-2.
Syracuse wraps up its road schedule when it visits Seton Hall and Rutgers beginning Saturday, November 6.
