Orange Tops Face-Off Yearbook Rankings

BALTIMORE – The Syracuse Orange is ranked No. 1 in the 2011 Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook Preseason Top 20 released on Monday, Nov. 29. It's the third consecutive season the Orange has checked in at either No. 1 or No. 2 in the yearbook's rankings.
Virginia was second behind Syracuse. The Cavaliers are followed by North Carolina, Cornell and defending national champion Duke to round out the top five. Maryland, Notre Dame, Stony Brook, Hofstra and Princeton complete the top 10.
On Tuesday, Nov. 30, the results of the Face-Off Yearbook Preseason Coaches Top 20 were revealed. The Orange was tabbed second in the coaches rankings with Virginia earning the top spot. Three ACC teams - North Carolina, Duke and Maryland rounded out the coaches top five. Princeton was picked sixth followed by Notre Dame, Stony Brook, Cornell and Johns Hopkins.
Head coach John Desko enters his 13th season at the helm of the SU program. Desko is 147-44 and has won five national championships. The Orange is coming off a 13-2 season and returns six All-Americans, including USILA Midfielder of the Year Joel White and USILA Goalkeeper of the Year John Galloway.
The Orange returns to the field in January for the start of spring practice.
