
Iowa Tops Orange in FAU Finale

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Syracuse (10-10) saw its four-game win streak end with a 4-1 loss to Iowa in the final game of the FAU Parents Weekend Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at the FAU Softball Stadium. The Orange finishes its stint in Boca Raton with a 4-1 record in FAU Tournament action.
Sophomore Lisaira Daniels continued to lead the team offensively, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Junior Rachel Helman was 1-for-1 in a pinch hit appearance while freshman Meghan Boston had a double.
Freshman Stacy Kuwik and senior Brittany Gardner combined in the circle. Kuwik threw 5.0 innings, striking out a pair while allowing three earned runs. Gardner entered in relief, allowing one earned run in an inning of relief.
The Hawkeyes put a pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the first off of two hits and an error. Iowa increased its lead to 3-0 with a run off of two hits in the bottom of the fifth.
Syracuse used a hit and a pair of errors to tally its lone run in the top of the sixth. Sophomore Stephanie Watts reached on an Iowa fielding error and Daniels quickly brought Watts around, doubling to right field to make it 3-1.
Iowa added an insurance run off of two hits in the bottom of the sixth, producing the final, 4-1.
The Orange continues its 10-day spring break road trip with the USF “The Game” Tournament, beginning Friday, March 18.
