Syracuse University Athletics has been recognized with a pair of New York Emmy Award nominations for excellence in production of online media content, as announced by the New York chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The Syracuse nominees will compete against two other nominated video features for the New York region Emmy in the Sports Online category. Winners will be announced at a black-tie gala at The Marriott Marquis in Times Square on April 18.
“SU Athletics continues to be cutting-edge and creative in all of its media platforms,” said director of athletics Dr. Daryl Gross. “We take great pride in being the leader in production of online media content. We appreciate director Roger Springfield and his staff in keeping us extraordinary.”
The Syracuse nominees include a historical retrospective of Syracuse Football and a behind-the-scenes feature on the 2009 lacrosse national championship game. Director of media properties and production Roger Springfield produced and edited both nominated entries, while SU athletics videographer Jim Hamilton shot the lacrosse feature video.
Springfield has received five Emmy nominations in his career and won the Emmy for Outstanding Sports Special in 1996 for his highlight film that chronicled the 1995 Syracuse Football season. He has also received 16 Telly Awards, a national distinction that recognizes outstanding accomplishments in video production.
Three years ago The New York Emmy® Awards began honoring original content created for broadband and portable delivery in order to honor the craft of television, regardless of the delivery platform. The Award continues to celebrate excellence in the industry, honoring the best video storytelling as an art form. This is the first time SUAthletics.com entered the awards competition.
