PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior John Lade and senior Chris Daniello were recognized by the BIG EAST Conference on Monday, April 5 for their performances last week. Lade was named the league's defensive player of the week and Daniello was picked to the honor roll for their roles in helping the third-ranked Orange defeat Villanova (20-6) on March 29 and Albany (15-8) on April 3.
Lade averaged 4.5 ground balls and 2.0 caused turnovers in the two victories. Against Villanova, Lade recovered four ground balls and forced a turnover. He also marked Wildcats' leading scorer Kevin Cunningham and held him without a point. Against Albany, Lade collected a season-best five ground balls and tied his personal best with three caused turnovers.
It's the fourth time this season an SU player has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. Lade joins senior Matt Tierney, who's earned the honor twice, and junior Joel White as Orange defenders to receive the award.
Daniello tallied nine points in the two victories, including tying his personal-best with three assists in each outing. He also contributed three goals last week. Daniello tied his personal-high with five points (2g, 3a) in the Albany victory to lead the Orange to the 800th win in program history.
Syracuse returns to action on Saturday, April 10. The Orange will face Princeton at the Konica Minolta Big City Classic at the New Meadowlands Stadium. Start time is approximately 6:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
