SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Brittany Gardner (Sterling, Va.) and freshman Sean Keefe (Churchville, Pa.) have been named the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of May 10, 2010.
Gardner is a pitcher on the softball team. She has made 20 appearances in the circle this season, compiling a 6-3 overall record. Gardner has struck out 42 batters in 62.2 innings, becoming only the third pitcher in program history to notch 400 career strikeouts.
Gardner is a communication and rhetorical studies major in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. The softball team heads to Louisville to face Villanova as the fifth seed in the BIG EAST Championship on Thursday, May 13 at 10 a.m.
Keefe is a distance specialist on the track & field team. He qualified for the BIG EAST and IC4A Championships in the 10,000 meter run with a 30:47.35 at the Cornell Big Red Meet.
Keefe is enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences. The track & field team travels to Princeton, N.J. to compete in the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships beginning Friday, May 14.
