SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men's lacrosse team will face Patriot League champion Army in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship on Sunday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. The game will be televised live on ESPNU. Syracuse is making its 30th appearance in the NCAA playoffs and was rewarded for a 13-1 regular season with the No. 2 seed in this year's 16-team field.

The Syracuse-Army pairing is a rematch of a 2010 regular-season game won by the Orange, 12-7, at the Carrier Dome on Feb. 28. Overall, SU has won 14 of the last 15 meetings with the Black Knights and is 2-0 against Army in the postseason.

The Black Knights are 10-5 overall and have won their last seven games. Baldwinsville (N.Y.) native Jeremy Boltus is the team's leading scorer with 63 points (27g, 36a).
This is the seventh time, and the second consecutive year, Syracuse has been seeded second in the postseason. The Orange owns a 15-3 all-time record when serving as the No. 2 seed, including winning the 1983, 2002 and 2009 national championships. Syracuse won its 11th NCAA title last year as the No. 2 seed with a 10-9 overtime win against Cornell at Gillette Stadium.
The winner of the Syracuse-Army game will meet the winner of Cornell-Loyola in the quarterfinal round on Sunday, May 23 at Stony Brook's LaValle Stadium. Cornell is the No. 7 seed. The Big Red is 10-5 and received an at-large berth into the tournament. The Greyhounds (9-4) also received an at-large bid into the field.
Syracuse has won the last two national championships and owns an overall record of 61-18 in NCAA Tournament play. Its .772 tournament winning percentage is the best in NCAA history and its 61 tournament victories is second all-time behind Johns Hopkins (65). The Orange has 29 previous NCAA invitations to its credit, including 24 straight from 1983-2006. SU advanced to the national semifinals 22 consecutive years from 1983-2004 and has 16 title-game appearances and 11 NCAA Championships (1983, 1988-90, 1993, 1995, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2008-09).
Head coach John Desko has directed the Orange to five NCAA titles (2000, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2009). His Orange squads are 27-5 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and Desko owns the highest tournament winning percentage (.844) in NCAA history.
