NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Syracuse's Cody Jamieson and Chris Daniello were selected in the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft on Sunday, June 6. Jamieson was selected in the second round (10th overall) by the Toronto Nationals and Daniello went in the third round (15th overall) to the Chesapeake Bayhawks.
Jamieson was an All-BIG EAST First Team honoree in 2010 and an honorable mention All-American. He ranked second on the Orange with 41 points, including 28 goals. For his career, Jamieson played in 21 games and contributed 37 goals for the Orange. None was bigger than the one he scored in overtime of the 2009 NCAA Championship game to lift the Orange to a 10-9 win, and the national championship, against Cornell.
Daniello was voted the 2010 BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year and led the Orange in points (53) and assists (25). He earned third-team All-America honors and tied Jamieson for second on the club with 28 goals. In 45 career games, Daniello totaled 83 points on 53 goals and 30 assists.
Sunday night's draft featured eight rounds and 48 total selections by the league's six teams. It was held at the Lanman Center on the campus of Yale University.
Prior to the draft, Daniello helped lead the College All-Stars to a 12-11 exhibition win against Team USA in the pre-draft challenge at the Yale Bowl. Daniello tallied four points (2g, 2a) in the weather-shortened contest, which was called with 9:13 left in the fourth quarter due to lightning in the area.
Former Syracuse standouts Ryan Powell and Matt Abbott competed for Team USA Sunday. Powell contributed one goal before leaving the game in the fourth quarter after taking a hard hit in front of the cage. Abbott did not score.
