SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse softball head coach Leigh Ross announced that Mike Bosch, a 13-year head coaching veteran out of Iowa Lakes Community College, will join the reigning BIG EAST Champion staff as an assistant coach, focusing on pitching.
“I am thrilled that Mike will be joining the Syracuse softball family this year,” Ross said. “As a head coach, Mike has had many years of success competing at the national level and has developed his players into some of the best in the country. His 20 years of experience teaching and mentoring young women will be priceless to every aspect of our program. Although his focus will be pitching, he will be involved in all areas. Mike is known as a strong recruiter and has developed great relationships with some of the top Amateur Softball Association (ASA) programs in the country. This will help us continue to identify and attract the finest student-athletes in the nation.”
Bosch joins the Orange after spending the previous 13 seasons as head coach at Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa. During his tenure, Bosch produced 28 All-Americans and 81 all-region selections while compiling a 525-236-2 overall record. In the past four seasons, Bosch led the Lakers to a pair of NJCAA Division II National Championship appearances, two regional titles, two district titles and earned NFCA NJCAA Division II National Coaching Staff of the Year honors in 2008. Bosch and his staff also garnered NFCA Midwest Coaching Staff of the Year honors in 2006 and 2010.
“I am excited for the opportunity to work with two great coaches in Coach Ross and Coach King,” Bosch said. “What they have been able to build here at Syracuse speaks volumes of their ability to recruit great student-athletes and develop them into BIG EAST champions. I am thrilled that Dr. Daryl Gross and Coach Ross have chosen me to be part of what they are building here at Syracuse. I plan to work diligently with the student-athletes to reach their goals and build on their success of last season.”
As assistant coach, Bosch will be involved in all aspects of the program from coaching to recruiting. A former professional pitcher and clinician at various pitching camps, Bosch will be responsible for mentoring the Orange pitching staff. He inherits a veteran staff of four returning pitchers – one senior, two juniors and a sophomore – led by junior ace Jenna Caira, who recently concluded her second summer tour with the Canadian National Team.
