
Syracuse Rolls into Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Syracuse (3-0) heads south for the two-day, four-match Samford Tournament beginning Friday, September 3.
A Look at Syracuse as Team
- Syracuse defeated Fairfield (3-1), Rhode Island (3-0) and Colgate (3-1) last weekend to claim the Colgate Classic title.
- This marks the second-consecutive season that the Orange has claimed its season-opening tournament title. Syracuse won the Big Orange Tournament championship to open the 2009 season.
- Prior to 2009, SU last opened the season at 3-0 or better in 2004, when it won nine straight matches, including a pair of tournament titles, before being dealt its first loss.
- Syracuse hit .312 as a team through the Colgate Classic while holding opponents to a .190 hitting percentage.
- Ranked eighth in the nation as a team with 2.83 blocks per set last year, the Orange reasserted its defensive dominance on the net, averaging 3.00 blocks per set.
A Look at Syracuse Individually
- Junior outside hitter Noemie Lefebvre earned her first career BIG EAST Player of the Week honor after leading the team with 43 kills and 22 digs through the Colgate Classic. Lefebvre registered a career-high 23 digs against Colgate while posting her 37th career double-double.
- Sophomore setter Laura Homann directed the offense with 118 assists and a 10.73 assists per set average through the three matches. Homann dished out a career-best 54 assists against Colgate.
- Sophomore middle blocker Samantha Hinz posted a team-best .512 attack percentage with 27 kills and nine total blocks through the weekend. She also fired off five service aces through the three matches.
- Freshman middle blocker Lindsay McCabe made her collegiate debut against Fairfield and started all three matches opposite Hinz in the middle. She paired 25 kills with 22 total blocks while hitting .442.
- Junior outside hitter Hayley Todd was second on the team with 28 kills and 13 total blocks through the weekend.
- Junior defensive specialist Ashley Williams made her collegiate debut at libero, tallying 20 digs through the weekend.
- Freshman outside hitter Samantha Clarey and sophomore defensive specialist Zoe Guzman both made their collegiate debuts at the Colgate Classic.
A Look at the Series
- Syracuse is 1-1 all-time against the Samford Tournament field.
- Syracuse defeated North Texas, 3-2 (13-15, 15-7, 15-9, 9-15, 15-12) in the only meeting between the two teams on Sept. 30, 1994 at the University of New Orleans Tournament in New Orleans, La.
- Tennessee Tech defeated the Orange, 3-2 (15-12, 15-10, 11-15, 11-15, 19-21) in the only meeting between the teams on Sept. 3, 1993 at the Alabama Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
- Syracuse will meet Samford and Northwestern State for the first time in program history.
