SYRACUSE, N.Y. –Senior Rob Long (Downingtown, Pa.) of the Orange football team and field hockey student-athlete senior Kristin Girouard (Oak Hill, Va.) are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 20, 2010.
Long, a 2009 BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection, has been Syracuse's starting punter since his freshman year. The second-year team captain's 44.0 yard punting average ranks third in the BIG EAST and 24th nationally this season. Most recently in the Dome opener against Maine, which SU won 38-14, Long punted five times for 222 yards. He is a nominee for the Ray Guy Award, presented to the nation's top punter.
Long, a dual major in marketing management and supply chain management, and the Orange will play their second game in the Dome on Saturday, September 25. Syracuse will face Colgate at 3:30 p.m. The game will also stream live on ESPN3.
Girouard has played a key role at forward for the Orange since her freshman year. This season she has started every game for the Syracuse and netted one goal and dished out an assist against Northeastern. Following the 2009 season, she was named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team. She also earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the spring 2010 semester.
Girouard, a dual major in global political economy and international relations, and the Orange will return home on Saturday, September 25, following a six-game road streak. Syracuse (5-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) will take on BIG EAST opponent Louisville (6-2, 1-0 BIG EAST) at noon on J.S. Coyne Field.
