SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Led by a double-double from Noemie Lefebvre, the Syracuse University Volleyball team (12-6, 2-1 BIG EAST) defeated Colgate (6-11) in three sets (26-24, 26-24, 26-24) on Wednesday night at the Women's Building.
Lefebvre registered 17 kills while hitting a .405 percentage on the evening, along with 10 digs. This was her second-consecutive game with a double-double.
The Terrebonne, Quebec native came out swinging as she connected on eight of her first 11 attacks. Andrea Fisher pitched with five kills on 10 attempts, while setter Emily Betteridge, in the first start of her career, had 16 helpers in the first set.
Lindsay McCabe and Erin Little took control of the offense in frame two. McCabe hit a perfect 4-of-4, while Little had a team-high five kills to help SU secure its second-straight 26-24 set and go into intermission up 2-0. McCabe was the only other SU player to join Lefebvre in double figure kills with 11.
The Orange found itself in an early 7-1 hole to start the third set, but impressive serving from Nicolette Serratore brought Syracuse back to life. With Colgate leading 20-16, a 6-0 run gave the Orange the lead at 22-20 and SU went on to secure the set 26-24 and the victory.
Laura Homann resumed her setting duties after set one and finished the match with 25 assists. Libero Ashley Williams set a new career-high for digs in a season as she tallied 20 on the night to bring her season total to 319.
“It's nice to come out and have our third sweep in a row,” assistant coach Kelly Morrisroe said. “We are looking forward to this weekend with two massive conference home games, starting with Villanova who is undefeated in the BIG EAST.”
Villanova, who is tied at the top of the standings at 4-0, invades the Women's Building on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The Orange then host Georgetown on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Head coach Jing Pu will look to record his 100th career BIG EAST coaching victory against Villanova.
