Syracuse Takes Second in Bama Bash

TUSCALOOSA, Ala - Syracuse (7-2) finished second in the Bama Bash Tournament standings with a 20-5 loss to 7/3 Alabama (10-0) in the tournament final. Senior outfielder Rachel Helman and junior catcher Lacey Kohl were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts in the three-day, five-game Bama Bash.
Junior outfielder Lisaira Daniels led the Orange at the plate against Alabama, going 2-for-3 with three RBI's and a run scored. Kohl also recorded a hit and drove in a pair of runs while freshman Shirley Daniels was 1-for-1 with a run scored. Fellow rookie Kealy McMullen recorded her first collegiate hit against the Crimson Tide.
Alabama started out strong from the outset, scoring four in the bottom of the first and another four in the bottom of the second.
The Orange got a run back in the top of the third as sophomore Veronica Grant was hit by a pitch and Helman drew a two-out walk to put two on board. The runners advanced to second and third on an error and a single through the left side by L. Daniels plated Grant, 8-1.
The Tide responded with six runs in the bottom of the third and another six runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game away.
Syracuse continued to battle, scoring four runs off four hits and a pair of errors in the top of the fifth. McMullen led off the inning with a single to the left side and advanced to second on a throwing error. Junior Leah Porter entered to pinch hit and was hit by pitch, putting two on and a single through the left side by S. Daniels loaded the bases. Helman reached on a fielder's choice that saw McMullen out at home, but a double to right center by L. Daniels scored two, 20-3. Kohl drove in the final two runs with a single through the right side, producing the final, 20-5.
The Orange now heads west, making its return to the Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. beginning February 25.
