WASHINGTON, D.C. – Four Orange standouts havebeen selected as nominees for the 2011Tewaaraton Award. The quartet of senior John Galloway, senior Stephen Keogh, senior John Lade and senior Joel White joined 21 other college lacrosse stars on the official list of nominees released by the Greater Washington Sports Alliance on Monday, April 18.
Syracuse's four nominees are the most from any one school.
The Tewaaraton Award has been presented to the national player of the year every season since 2001 and will be handed out on June 2 at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C.
Galloway holds the record for the most wins in NCAA history (54) by a goalie and is 54-7 overall in 61 starts, including a 10-1 record this season. He has 97 saves in 11 games and sports a .554 save percentage. Galloway ranks seventh nationally with a 7.28 goals-against average.
Keogh leads the Orange in points (30) and goals (23). He has five game-winning goals on the season, including overtime winners against Georgetown and Johns Hopkins. For his career, Keogh has 20 career hat tricks and ranks sixth among active players with 123 goals.
Lade is one of the top cover defensemen in the country. He held Denver's Alex Demopoulos and Villanova's Kevin Cunningham to one point each in victories earlier this season. Lade also shut out Johns Hopkins' Chris Boland in the Orange's 5-4 double-overtime win against the Blue Jays.
A Tewaaraton finalist last season, White continues to wreak havoc from his defensive midfield position. He leads the Orange in ground balls (42) and is second in caused turnovers (15). He also has two goals and two assists.
The Orange looks to improve to 11-1 on the year when it hosts Hobart on Tuesday, April 19 at the Carrier Dome. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
