SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Seniors Thomas Guadagnolo (Jordan, N.Y.) and Catherine Rodriguez (Bellevue, Wash.), of the Orange men and women's lacrosse teams are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of April 25, 2011. Both student-athletes were named to the Fall 2010 Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
As a co-captain, Guadagnolo has started all 13 games this season at close defense, helping the Orange to a 12-1 overall record. His 12 caused turnovers rank third on the team and he has picked up 18 ground balls this season. He was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on March 21 after scoring his first career goal against Albany and holding Johns Hopkins' top attackman without a point.
Guadagnolo, a public health major, and the Orange will host BIG EAST foe Notre Dame on Saturday, April 30 at 7 p.m. at the Carrier Dome.
Rodriguez ranks sixth on the team in goals scored with 17 and second in draw controls with 23. In SU's recent win against Cincinnati, Rodriguez scored two goals. She recorded her first career hat trick to help the Orange defeat Rutgers earlier this season. Prior to the start of the season, she was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
Rodriguez, a health and exercise science major, and the Orange will take on Cornell on Tuesday, April 26 at 7 p.m. and then hit the road for a BIG EAST matchup at Loyola on Friday, April 29.
