The 8-0 Orange leads all Division I schools with five Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-Americans. Syracuse placed two players on the first team and three on the second team when the list of 29 honorees was released by the magazine earlier this week.
Seniors John Lade and senior midfielder Jovan Miller were named to the 15-man first team. Classmates Jeremy Thompson, Joel White and John Galloway were picked to the 14-player second team.
Lade is perhaps the best cover defenseman in the country. Tasked with guarding the opposition's best attackman, Lade has neutralized some of the game's best players. He held Denver's Alex Demopoulos and Villanova's Kevin Cunningham to one point each in victories earlier this season. Lade also shut out Johns Hopkins' Chris Boland in the Orange's 5-4 double-overtime win against the Blue Jays.
Miller leads all Orange midfielders in points (15) and goals (9). He has at least two points in six of SU's eight games and scored a career-best four points (2g, 2a) in the team's win against Duke.
Thompson has contributed eight goals and seven assists while serving as the team's primary faceoff specialist. Thompson is 36-of-68 (.529) at the faceoff X and ranks second on the team with 21 ground balls.
White continues to wreak havoc from his defensive midfield position. He leads the Orange in ground balls (28) and caused turnovers (10).
Galloway became the NCAA's all-time winningest goalie, earning his 52nd career victory on April 3 versus Duke. He has 75 saves on the year and owns a 7.59 goals-against average. Galloway has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week three times this season.
Johns Hopkins was second behind the Orange with four Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-America selections. The Blue Jays' John Ranagan, Matt Dolente, Tucker Durkin and Pierce Bassett were all named to the first team.
