BALTIMORE – Orange senior goalie John Galloway was named to the Lowe's Senior All-America First Team during the 2011 NCAA Lacrosse Championships. Galloway was one of 10 senior lacrosse players from around the country to be chosen as finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, and the All-America teams were based on the voting results of the finalists.
Villanova long-stick midfielder Brian Karalunas was selected as the award winner by a nationwide panel of coaches, media, and fans.
The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award was conceived by sportscaster Dick Enberg as an honor for seniors in response to the growing trend of men's basketball players leaving school early for the NBA. It has since been expanded to include several sports, one of which is men's lacrosse.
Galloway recorded 147 saves, a.572 save percentage and broke his own school record with a 6.70 season goals-against average in 2011. He was rewarded by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) with the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Award as the nation's best goalie for the second consecutive season. He's also the two-time reigning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year.
Off the field, Galloway is a Capital One Academic All-District selection and he received his bachelor's degree in public relations earlier this month. Galloway has also been a fixture in the community during his career, donating his time to the Salvation Army Christmas Bureau, the Central New York Burn Foundation, Meals on Wheels and other local philanthropic organizations.
