SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men's lacrosse team won two NCAA statistical championships for the 2011 season. The Orange set a school record and led the country in man-down defense (.817) and posted the nation's best winning percentage (.882), finishing with a 15-2 overall record.
In 17 contests, the Orange successfully killed 49-of-60 extra-man opportunities to eclipse the previous record of 81.2 percent (69-85) set by the 2002 squad. Syracuse surrendered just two man-up goals in its final nine games, holding its foes to a 2-for-27 (0.74) EMO showing during that stretch.
The Orange's 15 wins were tied with Denver for the most in the nation and one shy of the school single-season record.
