TOWSON, Md. – Syracuse senior goalie John Galloway is the first two-time men's lacrosse academic All-American in school history. Galloway was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Men's At-Large Second Team for the second consecutive season on Tuesday, June 7.
In 2010, Galloway received second-team honors to join Greg Rommel (2007 – third team) and Mike Leveille (2008 – first team) as the only Orange lacrosse players to earn national academic All-America recognition. This year, Galloway made it two in a row by posting a 3.56 cumulative GPA and completing one of the finest careers in college lacrosse history.
Galloway recorded 147 saves, a.572 save percentage and broke his own school record with a 6.70 season goals-against average in 2011. He was rewarded by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) with the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Award as the nation's best goalie for the second consecutive season. He's also the reigning two-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year.
Galloway ends his career as the NCAA record-holder for wins (59) and minutes played (3,776) after helping the Orange to a 60-8 record during his four seasons and two NCAA titles (2008, 2009).
Off the field, Galloway earned his degree in public relations from the prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Communications last month. A seven-time member of the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll (min. 3.0 GPA), Galloway was a finalist for the 2011 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award presented to the nation's most outstanding student-athlete. In addition, he was Syracuse University's male recipient of the 2010-11American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Award.
