SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sacramento Kings forward Donte Greene is second in Syracuse basketball history for points scored by a freshman with 620 during the 2007-08 season. Greene was back in town last week for Jim Boeheim's Fantasy Camp.
Right now for you, there is a bit of uncertainty with the current NBA lockout. What have you been doing?
“Right now I live in Charlotte, N.C. with my family. I have been working out at UNC Charlotte and just trying to decide what I am going to do; either go overseas, or stay at home and try to wait it out. I have some options from over in Europe, so I have been thinking about going over and continuing to get better.”
Have you heard anything about the current lockout and its position?
“They are in two different worlds right now. It is so far apart, it's crazy. We have a meeting at the end of August to try and talk about some things, so hopefully we can get somewhat close to each other and bridge the gap. No one wants to have a lockout, so hopefully things can get worked out.”
You were only here for one year, but you had some great memories. Can you pin-point one specific memory that sticks out?
“Beating Georgetown at home was awesome. The student section rushed the court. For me personally, playing against Maryland – even though it was in the NIT – being able to play and beat them because I am from that state. Also, just being able to play with the guys I played with; Jonny Flynn, Scoop Jardine, Rick Jackson, Eric Devendorf for a short time before he got hurt, and of course Arinze Onuaku.”
What would you tell a potential recruit?
“It's a family here. This is my first time being able to hang out with guys like Lawrence Moten, Billy Owens and Derrick Coleman. It's great being able to be around those guys and feel like we have been hanging out for years. It's a real family here. We can always come back here – even when we are finished playing – and still get that love from the program. Everyone should want to play here.”
