LOGAN, Utah – The Syracuse University volleyball team (3-1) dropped its first match of the season as the Orange was defeated by tournament host Utah State 3-1, (23-25, 23-25, 25-17, 19-25) in its first match of the Utah State Invitational.
Despite the loss, Noemie Lefebvre became the 11th member of the 1,000 dig club at Syracuse. The Terrebonne, Quebec, native recorded 18 digs to go along with a 16 kills. Freshman Ying Shen also tallied 16 kills on the night.
Ashley Williams led the team with 28 digs, while Sam Hinz added eight more blocks to bring her season total to 27, good for a 1.93 blocks per set average.
Junior captain Laura Homann dished out a game high 42 assists, bringing her total to 152 on the year.
Utah State (2-2) was led by All-American Liz McArthur who had a team high 13 kills. The Aggie team defense was spread equally as five players recorded double-digit digs while Alyssa Everett led USU with eight blocks.
The loss snaps SU's 21 match nonconference winning streak. The Orange looks to get back on track tomorrow as Syracuse plays Texas State in its second match of the invitation. This will be the second all-time meeting between the Orange and the Bobcats as Texas State leads 1-0 in the series.
