SU Greats To Compete For Bowhunter Cup

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Seven former Syracuse lacrosse stars will take the field for Team USA when it squares off against the Iroquois Nationals in the second-annual Bowhunter Cup on Sunday, Oct. 16 at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino. Dan Hardy, Joel White, John Galloway, Tom Guadagnolo, Jovan Miller, Steve Panarelli are all on the active roster. In addition, SU women's assistant coach Regy Thorpe will serve as a coach for the American side in the indoor exhibition game.
The game will be the third between the two teams in the last thirteen months and is a rematch of the May 2011 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in Prague, Czech Republic, a game won by the Iroquois.
Faceoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. General admission tickets are $10. Youth reserved tickets are $10 and adult reserved tickets start at $20. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com or by calling the Turning Stone Box Office at 315-361-7469.
Hardy was a three-time All-American during his Syracuse career, finishing with 136 points in 64 career games. Hardy also notched six game-winning goals during his four years, including three during his senior year. Hardy was drafted eighth overall by the Denver Outlaws of the MLL in 2009 and also spent time with the Orlando Titans of the NLL in 2010.
White, also a three-time All-American, finished his SU career as the Orange's all-time leader in ground balls (283), points by a defensive player (28) and goals (18) by a defensive player. He had 28 career games with at least five ground balls and was a two-time team captain.
Galloway, a two-time first team All-American, is the most accomplished goalie in school history. He holds the NCAA record for wins (59) and minutes played (3,776). Galloway also ranks seventh in NCAA history for career goals-against average (7.33).
Guadagnolo was a close defender for the Orange and started every game as a senior team co-captain in 2011. He scooped up 22 ground balls and notched 15 caused turnovers.
Miller earned All-America honors twice at SU, and was drafted by the Rochester Rattlers eighth overall in the 2011 MLL Draft. During Miller's time with the Orange he scored 64 points in 67 games.
Hardy, White, Galloway, Guadagnolo and Miller were all a part of SU's 2008 and 2009 national championship teams.
Panarelli was a three-time All-American at Syracuse and finished his career with 186 ground balls. He was a member of the Orange's 2004 national championship team and played in the 2007 North-South Senior All-Star Game.
Thorpe played two years for the Orange and scooped 64 ground balls in 1993 to help SU win the national championship. He also earned All-America honors following the season. Thorpe currently works as an assistant coach for the SU women's program and helped lead the squad to an appearance in the 2010 NCAA semifinals.
