PHILADELPHIA – A trio of Syracuse seniors were selected on Friday, Jan. 13 in the 2012 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft.
Defensive midfielder Kevin Drew was selected with the fifth pick in the second round (No. 13 overall) by the Rochester Rattlers. Attackman Tommy Palasek went in the fourth round (28th overall) to the Long Island Lizards, and in the fifth round the Ohio Machine tabbed midfielder Bobby Eilers with the 34th overall selection.
Drew has 14 points, including 13 goals, in 45 career games for the Orange. A 2011 All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree, Drew set career highs in points (7), goals (6), assists (1) and ground balls (33) last season.
Palasek came to Syracuse last year after spending two seasons at Johns Hopkins. He played in all 17 games for the Orange in 2011 with eight starts. SU's third-leading scorer (35 points), Palasek tied for the team lead with 18 assists.
Eilers registered eight goals in 2011 as a member of SU's second midfield. At last season's New England Lacrosse Classic, he had a breakout game, scoring three times in a 13-3 victory over Providence.
Friday night's draft was held in the Liberty Ballroom at the Philadelphia Marriott. It featured eight rounds and 64 total selections by the league's eight teams.
Cornell attackman Rob Pannell was the top pick, going No. 1 overall to Long Island.
