HARRISON, N.J. – Former Orange goalkeeper Jeremy Vuolo signed a contract with Major League Soccer's (MLS) New York Red Bulls on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Per league rules, terms of the deal were not released.
Â
Vuolo spent the past year playing with Finnish club AC Oulu, which competes in Finland's second tier – the Ykkönen. Last season, Vuolo played in every match for Oulu, recording 11 shutouts, and led the squad to a third-place finish.
Â
"We are all excited for Jeremy," said Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre. "He has worked extremely hard and is coming off an excellent season in Finland. I know that he will continue his soccer education with the New York Red Bulls and under the guidance of goalkeeper coach Todd Hoffard. We all wish JV the best of luck as he embraces the next chapter of his career."Â
Â
The Downington, Pa. native played the 2010 season at Syracuse after transferring from Hartwick College. In 69 career games between the two schools from 2007-10, Vuolo recorded a 1.07 goals-against average and notched 21 shutouts, including three for the Orange as a senior.
"After doing extensive scouting, we believe that Jeremy has a very bright future ahead of him and can compete at the MLS level," said Red Bulls general manager and sporting director Erik Soler. "He had a very good year playing professionally in Finland and brings many great attributes to the table. We expect that he will compete for a starting spot this year."
