SYRACUSE, N.Y.  – Following their performances in victories against Villanova and DePaul last week, freshman Alex Bono has been named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, the conference announced on Monday, Oct. 22, while classmate Jordan Vale earned a spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.Â
Â
Bono is the first Syracuse goalie to win the award three times in one season, as he also earned the league's top goaltender honor on Sept. 10 and Oct. 15. Bono recorded five saves in shutout victories against both the Wildcats and Blue Demons to help the Orange clinch its first BIG EAST Tournament berth since 2005. Bono is tied for the BIG EAST lead with nine shutouts in 2012, and he has not allowed a goal in the last 290:09, a span of more than three games.
Â
Vale was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week after posting a goal in both games. The freshman midfielder leads the team with eight goals and has recorded the most tallies by a Syracuse freshman since Kirk Johnson scored nine goals in 2000. Vale ranks second in the BIG EAST in goals scored in conference matches with five.
Â
Bono, Vale and the Orange compete in their final regular-season match on Friday, Oct. 26 at St. John's. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at Belson Stadium.
