PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The pairings for the 2012 BIG EAST Tournament have been announced. Syracuse finished third in the American Division and earned a first-round bye for the second consecutive year. The Orange takes on Notre Dame, the No. 2 seed from the National Division, in the quarterfinals on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. in Notre Dame, Ind.
Syracuse ended the regular season with a 9-6-2 overall record and a 6-3-1 mark in BIG EAST play. The nine victories are the most for SU since the 2003 campaign. The Orange qualifies for postseason play in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1999 and 2000.
The winner of the Syracuse-Notre Dame game advances to the semifinals, which will be played on Friday, Nov. 2 at Morrone Stadium at the University of Connecticut. The other quarterfinal match on Syracuse's side of the bracket features Marquette, the No. 1 seed in the American Division, and either Rutgers or Connecticut. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 4. The tournament champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
