Three Syracuse teams take to the postseason road this week. The athletics departments gathered to celebrate their accomplishments and wish them well on their journey this morning. The Orange men's soccer team plays at Cornell in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. The SU field hockey team heads to the NCAA Final Four this weekend, taking on UNC on Friday, Nov.16 at 2 p.m. The men's cross country team as well, as Sarah Pagano from the women's team, competes at the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 17.
"We just have the most amazing head coaching staff in the country," said Syracuse Director of Athletics Dr. Daryl Gross. "There's no question about it when you look across the board. I'm so proud. We came off of a great spring where Gary Gait played for the lacrosse national championship and all the successes we had with Leigh Ross and the softball team. We moved right into the fall and we had three BIG EAST coaches of the year. "
For the first time in Syracuse history, three fall coaches have been named BIG EAST Coaches of the Year. Field hockey head coach Ange Bradley, cross country head coach Chris Fox and men's soccer head coach Ian McIntyre all garnered the accolade.
Men's soccer made the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1984 and only the second time in program history. The Orange went 12-5 in the regular season, recording its most wins in a season since 1988. The Syracuse field hockey team is competing in its second Final Four in program history with its first being in 2008. SU is coming off of a season where it went 16-1 and won a regular-season BIG EAST title. The men's cross country team won its third BIG EAST title in four years. They placed third at the NCAA Regionals this year.
