SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men's lacrosse team will take on BIG EAST rival Rutgers in the opening game of the third annual ESPNU Warrior Classic Saturday, April 14 in Charlotte, N.C. The Orange and Scarlet Knights will face off at 11 a.m. in American Legion Memorial Stadium, home of the MLL's Charlotte Hounds, as part of the doubleheader announced by the network today.
The second game features Hofstra versus North Carolina at 1:30 p.m. Both games will be televised live nationally on ESPNU.
Tickets for the doubleheader go on sale Wednesday, Feb. 15 at ESPNUWarriorClassic.com and on the Hounds' official Web site, CharlotteHounds.com. They are $20 for adults and $15 for children, senior citizens and students with school ID. Group discounts will also be available at $12 per ticket (min. 50 people).
“We're excited about being part of this event,” Orange head coach John Desko said. “It's unique for our program and our players to play in Charlotte and to receive some exposure there that we otherwise wouldn't. We thank ESPN for that opportunity and look forward to facing Rutgers, one of our conference rivals, on the national stage.”
This is the second straight season Syracuse will face Rutgers in the ESPNU Warrior Classic. At last year's event, the Orange defeated the Scarlet Knights, 12-2, at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn.
Syracuse begins the 2012 campaign on Sunday, Feb. 5 with its first preseason scrimmage versus Hofstra and Le Moyne. The Orange opens the regular season at home against Albany on Feb. 19.
