BALTIMORE – Former Syracuse University men's lacrosse stars Roy Colsey and Tim Nelson are among the 24 finalists for enshrinement into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. The ballot includes 12 men and 12 women and was released on Thursday, March 23 by U.S. Lacrosse. From the 24 finalists, the men's and women's voting committees will select this year's induction class, which will be announced prior to Memorial Day weekend.
Joining Colsey and Nelson on the men's ballot are Jake Curran (official/contributor), Brian Dougherty (player), Thomas W. Hall (coach), Jesse Hubbard (player), Steve Mitchell (player), Robert Shek (player), Bob Shriver (coach), Richard Speckmann (coach), Brian Voelker (player) and Michael Watson (player).
Colsey played for the Orange from 1992-95 and helped lead Syracuse to national championships in 1993 and 1995. He was a four-time All-American, earning first-team recognition three times (1993-95). In addition, Colsey was the 1995 recipient of the USILA's Lt. Donald C. MacLaughlin Jr. Award as the nation's top midfielder.
Colsey finished his SU career with 124 goals and 163 points. As a junior in 1994, he led the Orange in both categories, recording 44 goals and 57 points.
After spending his freshman year at N.C. State in 1982, Nelson came to Syracuse in 1983 and rewrote the team's record book in just three seasons. Nelson holds the Orange records for most assists in a game (9), season (67 in 1984) and career (187). He also ranks fifth on SU's career scoring list with 271 points (84g, 187a).
Including his rookie season with the Wolfpack, Nelson finished his college career with an NCAA-record 320 points (99g, 221a). The record has since been broken, but Nelson's mark of 221 career assists still stands.
The first three-time winner of the Lt. Col. Jack Turnbull Award (nation's top attackman), Nelson earned first-team All-America honors three times (1983-85) and helped lead Syracuse to its first NCAA championship in 1983.
