BIG EAST Recognizes Derek Maltz

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse men's lacrosse sophomore attackman Derek Maltz was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday, March 5 for his five-point performance in the Orange's 14-10 loss at No. 1 Virginia. Maltz set career highs in goals (3) and assists (2) in the contest.
Maltz had a hand in all four of SU's second-half goals against the Cavaliers. He scored three and assisted on one in the fourth quarter. He was also credited with an assist during a 5-0 second-quarter run that helped the Orange to 6-4 halftime advantage.
Maltz is the first Orange player to record a five-point game this season and he currently leads the team in both points (10) and goals (7).
Travis Comeau (Georgetown), Patrick Murray (Georgetown), Kevin Randall (Notre Dame) and Dillon Ayers (St. John's) joined Maltz on the weekly honor roll.
Notre Dame's Sean Rogers scored two goals, including the game-winner, in a 6-5 win against Drexel to earn BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors. Rutgers' Joseph Nardella was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for his 13-for-16 effort at the faceoff X in the Scarlet Knights' 9-6 win over Lafayette.
