2012 Schedule
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's soccer team and head coach Phil Wheddon will face six teams that advanced to last season's NCAA Tournament in 2012, including four during its non-conference schedule. The Orange will play eight home games next season, six against BIG EAST opponents.
“We try to put together a challenging schedule to prepare us for the BIG EAST season,” Wheddon said. “We want to put our players in different environments against good competition. When we get to BIG EAST play, there will be no surprises. Our players will be able to handle playing in adverse conditions.”
The Orange opens the 2012 campaign on Aug. 19 against Central New York foe Colgate in Hamilton. Following a pair of home games against Albany (Aug. 24) and Washington (Aug. 26), Syracuse goes on the road for four consecutive games. That stretch features three games against teams that competed in last season's NCAA Tournament – Ohio State (Sept. 2), Long Island (Sept. 7) and Army (Sept. 9).
Syracuse opens BIG EAST play on Sept. 13 against Connecticut in the SU Soccer Stadium. The Orange will have a three-game road swing that includes contests at Providence (Sept. 16), Louisville (Sept. 21) and Cincinnati (Sept. 23). The Orange will then host four consecutive games for its longest home stand of the season. Seton Hall comes to town on Sept. 28 followed by Rutgers (Sept. 30), Pittsburgh (Oct. 5) and 2011 BIG EAST Tournament champion West Virginia (Oct. 7).
The Orange's final road trip takes it to South Florida (Oct. 12) and Marquette (Oct. 14) before closing out the regular season against St. John's at home on Oct. 19.
Syracuse finished last season with a 7-8-3 overall record and a 6-5-0 mark in conference play. The Orange advanced to the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since 2005.
