David Hamlin from the men's lacrosse team and Janelle Stegeland from the women's lacrosse team are the Syracuse University Scholar Athletes of the Week for April 30, 2012.
Hamlin (New Hartford, N.Y) is a redshirt junior majoring in economics and history. He has been named to the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll two times
Hamlin has started all 14 games this season for the Orange on close defense. He is tied for second on the team with 13 caused turnovers and is third on the team with 24 ground balls.
Stegeland (Cortland, N.Y.) is a senior majoring in sociology. She has been named to the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll five times and is a two-time selection to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
Stegeland is tied for fourth on the team with seven caused turnovers in 2012. In addition to starting all 17 games for SU, she also has 17 ground balls on the year.
Both lacrosse teams will be competing in their respective BIG EAST Tournaments this weekend. The women's team will host the conference tourney, and will square off against Georgetown at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday night in the Carrier Dome. The men's team will travel to Villanova for their semifinal action against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
