Watson, Caira Earn Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Jasmine Watson has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for leading the Syracuse University softball team to a three-game sweep of Seton Hall last weekend. Senior pitcher Jenna Caira was named to the Honor Roll.
Watson was 5-for-9 at the dish with a home run and five runs batted in. Her long ball in the sixth inning of game one broke a scoreless tie and ended up being the game-winner. In the series finale, her bases loaded double broke the contest open en route to a 12-1 Syracuse victory.
Through the first two weekends of BIG EAST action, Watson is 9-for-15 at the plate with three home runs, 11 RBI's and seven walks. She leads the team with 25 runs batted in.
This is Watson's second Player of the Week recognition. She was also the conference's first recipient of the season for her efforts at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
Caira picked up a pair of wins against the Pirates. She struck out 16 batters in 11 innings of work and scattered just seven hits. Her 11 K's in the first game of the series is a season-high.
The senior is now 16-3 on the season and has won 13 games in a row. This is her fifth weekly award of the season.
The Orange has a jammed pack week with seven games on the schedule. SU travels to Cornell for a doubleheader on Wednesday, followed by a two games on Thursday against Binghamton at home. Syracuse then heads to Notre Dame for a three game series this weekend.
