No. 25 Syracuse Loses to No. 2 ASU, 3-1

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Orange surrendered three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as the No. 25 Syracuse University softball team (41-15) lost to No. 2 Arizona State (48-7) by a score of 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Farrington Stadium.
Syracuse is now 1-1 in the double elimination tournament and will play again tonight at 7:00 p.m. PST in an elimination game. SU will face the winner of Long Beach State LIU Brooklyn who meet at 4:00 p.m. PST.
The Orange took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Stephanie Watts singled home Lisaira Daniels from second base. Daniels led off the game with a walk and then moved into scoring position on a passed ball. The RBI single for Watts was her 30th of the season.
Starting pitcher Jenna Caira did not allow a hit until ASU rallied in the fourth inning. Nine Sun Devils came to the plate in the frame and ASU received two big hits with the bases loaded. Sam Parlich's single evened the game at 1-1, which was followed by a two-run single by Christina Zambrana.
First-Team All-Pac 12 pitcher Dallas Escobedo allowed just one SU base runner for the remainder of the game as ASU clinched a spot in the Regional Championship game tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. PST.
