Former Syracuse track and field standout Maegan Krifchin continued her successful post-collegiate career on Sunday in Syracuse when she turned in the fastest time in the history of the Mountain Goat Race. Krifchin finished the 10-mile course in 55:59, shattering the previous mark of 58:15, which was set by Salome Kosgei in 2009.
Sunday marked the second straight year that Krifchin won the Mountain Goat Race, and her winning time was more than three minutes faster than the second place time of 1:01.53.
In the summer of 2011, Krifchin finished fourth among women's competitors at the Utica Boilermaker with a time of 52:23. She finished 62nd overall, and was the first American woman to cross the finish line in a race that attracted more than 11,000 runners from around the world.
During her four years with the Orange, Krifchin rewrote the SU record book by setting school marks during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. The Bellmore, N.Y. native currently owns four Syracuse track and field records, including the outdoor mark in the 1500-meter run (4:22.65), which she set during her senior season.
She also holds the Orange record in the indoor 1000-meter run with a time of 2:50.54 during her sophomore campaign, two seconds faster than the previous mark held by Kathleen Sanborn in 2006. Krifchin burst onto the scene in her freshman season as part of the 4x800-meter relay teams that set the SU indoor and outdoor records with times of 9:02.61 and 8:59.31, respectively.
In addition to running in numerous BIG EAST, ECAC and NCAA competitions during her career, Krifchin was named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team and SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of her four years with the Orange.
