SYRACUSE, N.Y.-With a roster full of east coast connections, the New York College Classic is not only technically a home game on the SU football schedule, it also serves as a chance for some of the Orange to play closer to their hometowns. Join in supporting New York's college team when they take on USC in the New York College Classic at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 8th by visiting nycollegeclassic.com.
The Syracuse football roster features 26 players from the New York and New Jersey region that are close to East Rutherford, N.J., home of MetLife Stadium. The Orange squad boasts 19 players from the New York City area and seven who call the state of New Jersey home.
Even head coach Doug Marrone has a connection to the metropolitan area. Marrone, a Bronx, N.Y. native, will coach his team a mere 15 miles away from where he grew up.
For seniors Zack Chibane (Paramus N.J), Siriki Diabate (Bronx, N.Y), James Jarrett (Clinton, N.Y), and David Stevens (Short Hills, N.J) the game will provide a memorable experience for them in their last season wearing the Orange. The N.Y. College Classic also presents an interesting opportunity for offensive guard Chibane.
"One place I'm really looking forward to the most is playing USC at the Meadowlands," commented Chibane. "It's my home county. The last time I played in Bergen County New Jersey was my senior year of high school in the Thanksgiving game. I'm going to have all my people there and everything. I'm definitely looking forward to that."
Prior to the N.Y. College Classic, the Orange open up its 2012 season in the Carrier Dome against Northwestern on Sept. 1st. Tickets are available online, at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B) or by calling 1-888-DOMETIX.
