
Both Vaughan and Safdar will face USC this weekend
Vaughan and Safdar Named Orange Scholar-Athletes

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Redshirt senior and linebacker Dan Vaughan (Gibsonia, Pa.) of the football team and sophomore Komal Safdar (Mason, Ohio) of the Orange tennis team are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for Sept. 3, 2012.
Vaughan recorded three tackles against Northwestern, including 1.5 sacks for a loss of 12 yards in the season home-opener. His 1.5 sacks ties him for first nationally.
The three time BIG EAST All-Academic Team member has been on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in all semesters at SU. Vaughan earned his undergraduate degree in Finance from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management in May and is currently pursuing his master's degree in television, radio and film in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
Safdar posted a 28-13 overall record in 2011, going 9-6 in singles competition and 11-7 in doubles matches.
She was a member of the fall 2011 Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Safdar is currently majoring in biology in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Vaughan and the Orange football team will take on USC in New York's College Classic this Saturday, Sept. 8 at 3:30 p.m. in MetLife Stadium. Tickets and travel packages are available at www.nycollegeclassic.com Safdar and the Syracuse tennis team will also face USC this weekend, at SPORTIME in Randall's Island, N.Y. at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9th.
