Four Orange Receive Preseason All-America Nods

BALTIMORE – Four members of the Syracuse men's lacrosse team were selected as preseason All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse last month. Senior defenseman Brian Megill headlined the Orange's selections, earning first-team honors. Senior midfielder JoJo Marasco and junior attackmen Derek Maltz and Nicky Galasso received honorable mention nods.

A 2012 USILA Second Team All-American, Megill recorded 62 ground balls and set an SU single-season record with 37 caused turnovers a year ago. For his career, Megill has 135 ground balls and 78 caused turnovers.

Marasco was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team last season. He totaled 31 points in 2012 and ranked second on the Orange in assists (19). Â He has 44 goals and 45 assists in his three seasons at Syracuse and recorded at least one point in 16 of the Orange's 17 games last year.

One of seven players to start every game in 2012, Maltz had a team-high 28 goals a year ago. He ranked second on the team in scoring with 37 points (28 goals, nine assists) and finished sixth in the BIG EAST in goals per game (1.65).

Galasso, a junior transfer from North Carolina, was named the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2011 after setting Tar Heel rookie records for points (56) and assists (32). Galasso played in 13 games for the Tar Heels last season while recovering from injury. He registered nine points, including six goals, in 2012.

In addition to being recognized as preseason All-Americans, Marasco and Megill were named to the publication's All-BIG EAST preseason team. Overall, the league's coaches tabbed Syracuse second behind Notre Dame in the magazine's preseason poll.

The Orange opens the 2013 season at home on Sunday, Feb. 17 against Albany.
