SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After his record-setting performance in SU's 5-0 rout of NC State on Friday, Oct. 4, Emil Ekblom was named the Disney Soccer/NSCAA Division I Men's Player of the Week and earned a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer.com and College Soccer News National Teams of the Week, released on Tuesday.
Ekblom set an SU Soccer Stadium record with seven points against the Wolfpack. He scored three goals to record SU's first hat trick since 2008 and added an assist to help the Orange to its most goals in a conference match since netting five against former BIG EAST compatriot Providence on Sept. 22, 2001.
The rookie forward leads the ACC with six goals this season, while his 15 points (six goals, three assists) is tied for the conference lead.
It is the second time this season an Orange player has won the NSCAA's player of the week honor. Alex Bono received the honor on Sept. 24 following SU's wins against Connecticut and Duke.
Ekblom, Bono and the rest of the SU men's soccer team visit Boston College today for a 5 p.m. match at Newton Campus Field.
