TAMPA, Fla. – After claiming the early doubles point, fourth-seeded Syracuse couldn't outlast No. 5 DePaul in the singles competition as the Blue Demons knocked off the Orange, 4-1, in the second round of the 2013 BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship at the USF Varsity Courts.
Syracuse came out strong on day two, taking its second straight doubles point in the tournament. Junior Maddie Kobelt and freshman Brittany Lashway won the first match of the day, defeating Maddie Cutura and Ana Vladutu by a score of 8-3. DePaul took the set on court three, but sophomores Komal Safdar and Amanda Rodgers rallied for an 8-4 win on court two to clinch the point.
Heading into singles play, the Blue Demons regrouped and racked up three points with wins from on courts one, four and five.
