FOR STARTERS
- Like Syracuse, Boston College was a founding member of the BIG EAST Conference in 1979. The Eagles joined the ACC on July 1, 2005.
- Syracuse supplants BC as the northern-most school in the ACC, but the Eagles remain the eastern-most.
- BC has won a total of 11 national championships, five in NCAA sports (all men's ice hockey), but none in ACC-affiliated sports. The Eagles have won six sailing ICSA national titles between women's and co-ed.
- Boston College has 29 varsity sports programs.
TWICE THE FUN
After not playing each other since the 2004-05 season, the Orange and Eagles will play each other twice in men's basketball in 2012-13. The ACC announced on April 23 that Boston College and Pittsburgh are Syracuse's "partner" teams, meaning they will play once on each team's home court this season.
ONE BUSY DAY
The last time the Orange and Eagles played each other in a regular season conference game was April 16, 2005 when the two schools actually played each other in three different sports, with SU going 3-1 on the day. Orange softball swept a doubleheader in Chestnut Hill, 4-2 and 8-2, while women's lacrosse won in the Carrier Dome, 11-4, and tennis lost to the Eagles, 6-1, in Chestnut Hill.
PEARL'S SHOT
Freshman Pearl Washington's 45-footer as time expires beats Boston College, 75-73. BC had tied the game at 73-73 on a basket by Martin Clark with four seconds left. Clark missed a free throw that would have put the Eagles up by one – Sean Kerins got the rebound and passed it to Pearl. After letting go of the shot, Washington heads right off the court and into the tunnel to the locker room. The Dome had 30,293 on hand for that game. Washington finished with 20 points and seven assists.
DIAMOND SPARKLES
A memorable moment vs. BC occurred on the gridiron on Nov. 27, 2004, the last time the teams played as conference foes. With No. 17/19 BC (8-3, 4-2) needing a win to secure its first BCS bowl berth, the Orange football team (6-5, 4-2), led by a career-high 141 yards and three touchdowns (two on offense, one on defense) by Diamond Ferri, upset the Eagles, 43-17, in Chestnut Hill to win a share of the BIG EAST title in BC's final game in the conference. Ferri took over at running back for an injured Damien Rhodes, having a career game just a few miles from his hometown of Everett, Mass.

ROOKIE QB IMPRESSES
Freshman quarterback Donovan McNabb was 13-of-17 passing for 174 yards and three touchdowns, while Malcom Thomas (123) and Rob Konrad (79) combined for 202 yards rushing as Syracuse topped BC, 58-29, on Nov. 18, 1995 at the Carrier Dome. The Orangemen's 58 points is the most by either side in the history of the series. Senior wide receiver Marvin Harrison added four receptions for 47 yards, one rush for 24 yards and returned a punt for a touchdown. It was the first of McNabb's four wins against the Eagles in his career (4-0).

HALL OF FAME GROUND GAME
Larry Csonka rushed for 119 yards on 19 carries, Rick Cassata ran for 102 yards on 11 carries and Floyd Little had 73 yards on 14 carries as Syracuse shut out Boston College, 30-0, on Oct. 15, 1966 in Chestnut Hill. SU rolled up a 362-39 rushing advantage that included 22 yards on two carries by Tom Coughlin, future coach of the Eagles, and of course led the New York Giants to two Super Bowl titles.

FIELD HOCKEY SUCCESS VS. BC
The Orange and Eagles continued their rivalry even after BC departed the BIG EAST, meeting six times since then with SU going 5-1, including a 6-2 win in the NCAA Tournament first round on Nov. 14, 2009. The teams' most recently played last fall, on Oct. 21 at Coyne Stadium, a 4-2 Orange win. The Irish connection of Gillian Pinder and Emma Russell scored two goals each for the No. 3 Orange vs. the No. 16 Eagles.
OSLANDER'S OUTSTANDING OUTING
Women's basketball's top individual performance against Boston College would be when Holly Oslander scored 39 points on 16-of-27 shooting vs. Boston College on Jan. 12, 1991. It was at the time the highest single-game scoring total in Orange history and still ranks second behind only Vaida Sipaviciute's 41 vs. Colgate on Nov. 29, 2005 and remains SU's all-time high in a conference game.
SOFTBALL'S MARATHON GAME
The longest game in SU softball history (14) innings was the second game of a doubleheader on April 20, 2002. The 3:26 contest featured 49 Orange at-bats, including 14 hits, featuring Cheryl Julicher's solo homer that gave SU the victory, 6-5, to sweep the doubleheader.
This past season, the Orange blasted BC 10-0 on March 1 in Orlando. Freshman Corinne Ozanne went 4-for-4 with a home run and six RBIs.
ON THE VOLLEYBALL COURT
The two teams have enjoyed a long history together, having played the first match against each other in 1982. In the most recent two outings, the Orange defeated BC in four sets. The win in 2005 was in the Boston College Tournament, which was the season-opener for the Orange.Â
ON THE SOCCER PITCH
Syracuse defeated Boston College, 1-0, to win the inaugural BIG EAST Tournament title in 1982. The match lasted six overtimes and is still the longest game in the history of BIG EAST men's soccer (160:26). Jim Powers scored the winning goal in 161st minute. Keeper Joe Papaleo was credited with the assist.
PERFECT RECORD FOR WOMEN'S LACROSSE
The Orange is a perfect 10-0 against BC in women's lacrosse. The teams have played for the past two years. In 2012, Alyssa Murray set the single-game school record with 10 points in SU's 23-12 season-opening victory.Â
ANGHEL'S SHUTOUT
The schools met in women's soccer on Sept. 1, 2011 for the first time in five years after meeting every year from 1996-2004. Goalkeeper Brittany Anghel recorded her second consecutive shutout as the Orange and the No. 12-ranked Eagles played to a 0-0 tie.
WOMEN'S ROWING
The Orange and Eagles women's rowing programs met at one event in 2012-13, the Princeton Chase on Oct. 28. Syracuse's A, B and C varsity fours finished in fifth, ninth and sixth, respectively, ahead of BC's A, B, C and D boats, which here 15th, 16th and 36th and 37th, respectively.
ON THE ICE
The only two schools in the ACC that sponsor women's ice hockey programs are Syracuse and Boston College. While the Orange competes in the CHA and the Eagles compete in Hockey East, the two will face each other this season for the third time. In their first meeting in 2009, the Orange erased Boston College's 3-0 lead by scoring three-straight goals to send the game into overtime in what ended as a 3-3 tie at Conte Forum. Stefanie Marty, Holly Carrie-Mattimoe and Isabel Menard all scored for SU. The Orange outshot the Eagles, 33-23 while goaltender Lucy Schoedel stopped 20 shots.Â
