WOMEN'S SOCCER WINS SERIES OPENER IN OT
On October 28th, 2001 the Orange women's soccer team took field for the first time ever against the Hokies in a game that featured 14 corner kicks for Syracuse compared to Virginia Tech's two. Despite there being a combined 31 shots in regulation time for both teams, none of the shots managed to catch nylon. That was until overtime in the 101st minute when midfielder Erin Parsons found the back of the net to give SU a drove in all five runs as Syracuse softball shut out Virginia Tech, 5-0, in the final game of the USF Under Armour Invitational on March 11, 2012 in Clearwater, Fla. in the last meeting between the two programs. The senior catcher blasted a first-inning grand slam to give SU the early advantage and drove in another run in the fourth. Jenna Caira threw the complete-game shutout, allowing three hits and striking out five as the Orange's win streak vs. the Hokies reached three games.

ON THE LACROSSE FIELD
Syracuse and Virginia Tech met in four consecutive seasons from 2001-04 when both were members of the BIG EAST Conference. The Orange won all four meetings and averaged 13.0 goals per game. The closest contest between the two schools took place in 2003 in Salem, Va. Syracuse jumped out to a 3-1 lead before Virginia Tech netted three straight goals to take is first lead of the game at 4-3 with 7:21 to play in the first half. After Jessica Trombley tied the score, Christine Doran tallied back-to-back goals to put the Orange back on top 6-4.
The Hokies recorded the final goal of the first half and the first of the second half to again even things up at 6-6 with 24:39 remaining. The teams traded goals before Danielle Lillis scored an unassisted goal at the 15:05 mark to give Syracuse an 8-7 victory in its conference opener.
