2014 U.S. Training Team Roster
BALTMORE – Five former members of the Syracuse University men's lacrosse team were among the 52 selected to the 2014 U.S. Men's National Team training roster, U.S. Lacrosse announced earlier this week.
The training roster was paired down from 94 players that competed at a three-day tryout camp this past weekend at Goucher College in Baltimore.
Midfielders Steven Brooks, Matt Abbott, JoJo Marasco, Kevin Drew and goalie John Galloway made the cut. Brooks, Abbott and Galloway were members of the Orange's 2008 NCAA championship team and Abbott, Galloway and Drew were teammates on Syracuse's 2009 national championship team the following year.
Drew and Marasco, who was a Tewaaraton Award finalist and the Orange's leading scorer with 66 points (24 goals, 42 assists) last season, were late additions to the tryout pool, receiving the call just days before the start of camp.
The five Orange alums, along with 47 others, will vie for 23 spots on the final world championship roster through a series of Team USA fall and winter events. The training schedule culminates with the U.S. Lacrosse Champion Challenge from Jan. 24-26 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
The reigning world champion U.S. Men's National Team will compete for a record 10th world title at the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship, hosted by U.S. Lacrosse, from July 10-19, 2014 in Denver, Colo.
