Shafer Excited For New Athletics Center

Â
"I couldn't be more excited about this facility," Shafer said. "Hats off to thanking all of those people who have made this thing possible, starting at the top with Chancellor Syverud, to (director of athletics) Daryl Gross and his folks over at the administration, to Dick and Jean Thompson and all of the other people who are putting their resources together to make this possible for our student-athletes."
Â
Shafer shared some of the ways the athletic center will impact the football program, including the ability to start spring practice earlier like many other Atlantic Coast Conference schools, opportunities for student-athletes to work on their own at any time of the day, and to have more space for every practice given that it is right next to Syracuse's two outdoor football practice fields. The facility benefits all Orange teams and serves as an example of the Department of Athletics' commitment to first-class resources for its student-athletes.
Â
"To regular students, just like on campus when there's construction at Whitman (School of Business), this shows that we are moving forward."
