CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Rounding out accolades from last week's performances, freshman Syndey O'Hara took home Corvias ECAC Softball Division I Metro-Upstate Co-Player of the Week, announced by the Eastern College Athletic Conference on Tuesday, April 15.
O'Hara also collected Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday. It was the second time this season the rookie earned both honors. She received ACC Player of the Week on March 17 and ECAC Division I Metro-Upstate Co-Player of the Week on March 18, along with Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week.
O'Hara led Syracuse to a 5-0 record, including a series sweep at Atlantic Coast Conference rival Pittsburgh, to get back to .500 (18-18) on the season. She batted .500 (9-18) with team bests of seven runs batted in and three doubles to go along with a homer and six runs scored, raising her batting average by .038 to above .300 on the campaign. On the rubber, the righty finished 2-0 with a save, 15 strikeouts, two complete games – with one being a shutout. In both instances that O'Hara went the distance, she yielded two hits or less. For the week, opponents only batted .182 against her.
On the season, O'Hara is batting .308, with four home runs, 20 RBIs and a team-high 11 doubles, which is tied for 10th in a single-season at SU. She has been even more dominant pitching to opposing batters, compiling a record of 12-7 with a 3.63 earned run average in her debut campaign. O'Hara's six shutouts ranks tied for fourth in one season at SU to go along with six complete game performances where she has surrendered two hits or less, including a no-hitter and a trio of one-hitters. The 122 strikeouts already has O'Hara sitting 10th in the Syracuse career record books.
