
Rice, Mullins Lead List of Orange All-Americans

BALTIMORE – Junior Kevin Rice and redshirt sophomore Brandon Mullins headlined a group of five Syracuse University men's lacrosse players who earned All-America recognition from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) on Thursday, May 22.

Rice was one of four attackmen named to the second team, joining Matt Kavanagh (Notre Dame), Kieran McArdle (St. John's) and Justin Ward (Loyola). Mullins also received second-team honors, combining with Scott McWilliams (Virginia) and Jack Reilly (Johns Hopkins) to make up the second defense.

The trio of Dylan Donahue, Matt Harris and Billy Ward joined Rice and Mullins on the organization's 2014 list of All-Americans by earning honorable mention status.

An All-ACC selection and Tewaaraton Award nominee, Rice started all 16 games for the Orange and led the team in points (80) and assists (44). Rice tallied at least one point in every game and recorded six games of at least seven points. In the season opener against Siena, Rice passed out eight assists, one short of the Orange single-game record. He also set the ACC Championship tournament records for points (15) and assists (11) versus Duke and Notre Dame.

Mullins returned to the Orange lineup this season after missing most of 2013 due to injury. He started every game on close defense and collected 36 ground balls, while forcing 17 caused turnovers. Mullins also built a reputation of was of the country's top cover men, routinely marking the opposing team's top offensive player.

Donahue tallied a team-best 37 goals and finished third on the Orange in scoring with 54 points. He registered seven hat tricks and scored a career-best eight goals versus Siena, one shy of the school record. Donahue also ranks fourth nationally with a .529 season shooting percentage (37-70).

Harris started the year at LSM before moving down to close defense a quarter of the way through the season. He picked up 27 ground balls and caused a team-high 21 turnovers in 2014 and concluded his career second at SU in career caused turnovers (68). Harris also chipped offensively this season, scoring three goals on four shots.

SU's top scoring midfielder, Ward finished the season with 26 points on 18 goals and eight assists. He registered five multi-goal games in 2014, including hat tricks in wins versus Albany and North Carolina.

The Orange's five All-America selections were tied for the fourth-most of any school. Only Duke (10), North Carolina (6) and Virginia (6) had more.
