GREENSBORO, N.C. - Syracuse's Shirley Daniels and Julie Wambold have been named to the All-ACC Academic Softball Team, the Atlantic Coast Conference office announced on Tuesday.
The Orange duo represents two of the 30 student-athletes from around the ACC earning the honor. To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
Daniels, a senior supply chain management major from Newnan, Georgia, completed her Syracuse career as the school's all-time leader in stolen bases with 85 in 99 attempts. The outfielder also ranks in SU's top 10 in career runs scored with 107 (seventh), triples with three (seventh), games played 206 (seventh) and a .391 on-base percentage (ninth).
Daniels was named to the All-ACC Third Team in 2014 after batting .285 with a .419 on-base percentage and leading the Orange with 33 runs scored and 24 stolen bases. She also contributed 11 doubles, three home runs and 20 RBIs while starting all 49 games.
Wambold, a junior child and family studies major from Hatboro, Pennsylvania, currently ranks seventh on the Orange's all-time home run list with 24 heading into her senior year.
The second baseman had a breakout season in 2014, raising her batting average 65 points from .244 in 2013 to .309 this season, to go with a .403 on-base percentage while slugging .529. Wambold added 10 doubles, six homers and 24 RBIs.
